Suor Angelica finale

Not long ago there was a telecast in Italy of Puccini's Suor angelica at the RAI auditorium. The cast included Soprano Chiara Taigi as Suor Angelica, Annamaria Chiuri as La Zia Principessa (who does not appear in this clip), and Nicoletta Zanini as Suor Genovieffa (who does) all conducted by Riccardo Chailly.

From that telecast we have the entire last scene of the opera starting with the Senza mama. The clip also includes the Flower aria, which Puccini cut for the Italian premiere of the opera and goes all the way to the end of the opera.

I will go against type and leave my own impressions out of the equation.

Im sure maestro Chailly, deeply missed Mrs. Gallardo-Domas in that 1998 Concertgebouw concert while hearing this woman trying to cope with the final scene...

Correction to my comment regarding Ms. Taigi's voice type: should read 'lyrico spinto'.

Ms. Taigi is possessed with a rich lyrico spinot soprano voice, and I only wish for her greater ease with more breath flow at the topmost notes as she has grown too accustomed to hearing her rich sounds in the medium voice with the desire to carry that same to the top. She does not sing cleanly on the breath at this stage in her career as she's been taught to do, and I wish for her help in getting the voice back to a cleaner allignment which will aid her high notes greatly. Beautiful emotion.
