-Background-We use Advantage Database Server. We've been using it since around 2003, and it's been pretty much a godsend for our company. It's been a great success for us. We do construction management, accounting, and document management, document imaging for the commercial, industrial, institutional sector of the construction market.
-Selecting Sybase-I heard about the Advantage Database Server years ago. We were in a product called "Clipper", which Advantage first came out to be a solution for the "Clipper" industry. The database tables again, with data corruption issues -- Advantage had a solution back in the 90's for that. And I had heard about them, I just stayed away because 'cause we never really had a need yet to move to that. When we went to Windows, and to the Paradox, we got into the record-locking issues, and corruption issues with the data, and we needed a solution, and I remembered Advantage, and I started asking around and talking with consultants, and hands-down, the recommendations were great. So, we took a path that route, and went after it, and within 6 months from start-to-finish, we had our product rolled-out in Advantage and, it's just been a tremendous success for us. I would never go back; I'd never second-guess that decision. We were looking for a new product to take. We were on a flat-file system; it was called "Paradox". And, like I said, there was lots of data corruption, and data-locking issues. And we needed a way to not leave behind legacy data of our clients. And after searching the market, and talking with consultants, the only logical choice was the Advantage Database Server. We seamlessly brought our client's data into Advantage. Didn't lose any transactions, so our customers were able to maintain every piece of data they've built for years. Some of them have been with us for over 20 years. And they did not lose any data by us choosing that path. So it was the only logical choice for us to go on. It's turned out well. It's turned out better than we ever planned. So, we're very, very happy.
-Benefits of Sybase-For our staff, it's easier for us to support our customers. Our customers don't need IT staff to maintain the database, because it pretty much self-installs, takes care of itself; not a high-maintenance-type product. The reporting, and data fetching capabilities are much faster with the Database Server from Advantage. Just client satisfaction overall; we've been able to scale our product to larger clients. We've been able to handle their bigger issues, you know, instead of 3 or 4 employees - to 3 or 4 hundred employees. So it's been real good for them, and real good for our company. Now that we have Advantage Database Server with our product, we're able to obviously, one: go after more higher-volume customers, which helps us. We've increased our average sale from typically a $5 to $6 thousand dollar retail price, to probably $15 to $20 thousand. So, it's probably helped us 3 to 4 times growth in our volume every year. And because of the scalability of the Advantage Database Server, we're able to go after larger clients that we had to shy away from before. There was just no way for us to go after them with a flat-file system, and Advantage has made it really, really easy.
-Why Sybase?-Before we used the Advantage Database Server, life was pretty hectic. We had lots of support calls regarding data corruption, timeout issues, locking with files - just kinds of support nightmares that took sometimes, an hour or two on the phone with each customer. All that went away when we converted to Advantage Database Server. So, from a management and, you know, profitability for our company, it's been a great success. Hands-down, I mean, I would totally recommend Sybase to anyone that asked me. The company's solid, again, in hard financial times they're doing very well. Sounds like they're run by smart people; they know what they're doing. They know what the market needs; they don't just create things, and hope people will use them. And they're very good about supporting their customers. So, I would recommend them, without a thought, to anyone.
