Today we are making a staple Moroccan dish called "Bessara". Bessara is a thick soup made of dried fava beans, it be eaten alone or as a dip with bread. Moroccans especially enjoy it during cold weather. I am going to show you are to make it without a pressure cooker because many people do not own one. Another simple, easy, and delicious Moroccan recipe!

I personally prefer it as a dip!!! actually, what I do, I boil a cage free organic egg (I am big on the organic eggs) and cut it into slices on top of bessara and eat it with bread! yummy dinner!

  • In Morocco, we eat this delicious Berber soup at the winter when its freezing, it is a hot meal.

  • u r so phony and fake

  • my fav meal

  • Fava beans are very nutritious so I was looking for a way to add them to my family's diet. This recipe is great! I'm making this the second time already. We used as a dip, also to fill tortillas with this fava bessara folded in half. Then brush with olive oil & place on george forman grill. Makes wonderful hors d'oeuvres or a side for soup. Thanks Alia!

  • I am new cooking with fava beans. I managed to get a bag of fava from an Arabic store but they are smaller in size, brownish with skin on them. The grocer says it is used to make foul mudammes. The one that alia shows is bigger and greenish. I guess there may be some variations to this bean. Anyway, I managed to make foul with it, and I plan to use it for Bessara. Not quite sure whether it will taste like alia's.

  • never ever tasted fava beans, i've seen them in my mum's freezer but i dont know what she does with them if she prepared any food with them means i didn't know what i was eating loll

  • @cookingwithalia wow thanks for the reply:) i hope to have the chance to do this recipe soon.. it looks so yummy:)
