A beautiful, haunting song. Here's the story from Rene. The South is Mine came from the fact that when my Dad died we were going through some of his papers. We discovered this poem that he wrote called, The South is Mine. He was born in Virginia, and he lived there his whole life instead of going north like his brothers and sisters did to try to escape Jim Crow and segregation. My Dad decided to stay in the South and fight for civil rights in his home. When we came across the poem, which was an expression of him saying, This is my home. The South is my home. Im not going to let some redneck chase me out of it, I tried to put it to music, but it was too bitter. I thought, Ive got my own experiences of growing up in the South and living here all my life. Im going to write a song about how I feel but I decided to title it the same thing, just as a nod to my father.
there s something in the way Marie sings that beats fear.. Her performance comes as an antidote to the global spiritual misery..
Beautiful song..

Riveting! Love the way the drummer's work is so subtle - nice brushwork.
Lyrics for the closing section really work. (Nice contrasts between all parts of the piece, re. music and lyrics.)
