this was a good news/bad news song.
the good news- the music and lyrics showed up at exactly the same time. the verses were coming through so fast i could hardly write them down, which is why i didn't notice the bad news- the music was note for note townes van zandt's "white freightliner blues".
this song took less than 10 minutes to write, but a year and a half to fix.
a lesser man would have cracked up a long time ago.
performed on Haze, my purple plastic mauna loa ukulele.
(get it? purple? Haze? you know what i'm talkin 'bout.)

i used to be your little dog baby
always beggin' from your hand
i used to be your little dog baby
always beggin' from your hand
i'm gonna get up on my hind legs
i'm gonna walk just like a man
i'm gonna get up on my hind legs
i'm gonna walk just like a man

you know you had me crawlin'
crawlin' around on all fours
you know you had me crawlin'
crawlin' around on all fours
i'm gonna get up on my hind legs
i ain't gonna crawl no more

you had me on that short leash
always jerkin' my chain
you had me on that short leash
always jerkin' my chain
i'm gonna get up on my hind legs
you won't see me again
i'm gonna get up on my hind legs
you won't see me again

when i was your little dog baby
i'd fetch any stick you throwed
when i was your little dog baby
i'd fetch any stick you throwed
i'm gonna get up on my hind legs
i'm gonna get on down the road
i'm gonna get up on my hind legs
i'm gonna get on down the road

  • I love this song! the ultimate liberated man song. I love the little run and the natural fade at the end too. The smart woman is the one who lets us think that we're standing on our hind legs... but they know better.

  • Great job

  • Yee hah! Love that hillbilly strum!

  • Great song! Great lyrics!

  • that was pretty sweet playing
