New research from eBay shows that £652 million will be spent by British shoppers on Christmas gifts that aren't wanted this year. Of the 10 gifts the average person gets at Christmas, at least one will be left unloved under the tree.

According to eBay, 366,000 people start selling their discarded presents on the auction site on Christmas Day itself! With three quarters of those doing so by lunchtime -- with listings hitting a peak by 10am.

Be warned if you've bought power tools, or DIY equipment -- they're apparently the least wanted gifts; with clothes, shoes and accessories being the most wanted.

A fifth of us say that we re-use our unwanted gifts, passing them on someone else, but those wanting to sell their gifts can use eBay's top tips for selling:

1. Think about timings -- listings that end in the middle of the night will attract less people
2. Start at a low price -- if you keep it at 99p it's free to list and will attract more buyers
3. Get your title right -- with 55 characters to get buyers' attention include details like size
4. Include all available information and good, clear pictures
5. Be on hand after the sale to provide great customer service and ensure positive feedback
