Mahalo expert Keltie Colleen explains how to make a fleece blanket, which is an option for Christmas presents.

When deciding what to get someone for the holidays, consider a homemade Christmas gift such as a fleece blanket. This is a practical gift that can be personalized for someone by choosing fabric that reflects their favorite colors or patterns. It can also be made in a variety of sizes.

Fleece
blankets can be made to use as a throw to complement a bedding set. They may also be made to match a living room color scheme. For children, fleece patterns may include patterns for both boys and girls.http://www.fabricdiva.com/Baby-Kid-Teen-Fleece-C7.aspx

Step 1: Choose Your Fleece Fabric
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The first thing you will need to do is to decide what type of pattern you would like to use. Fleece fabric can be found in a variety of patterns and styles including those designed for the holiday, sports-inspired themes and cartoon characters. You may want to use a patterned fabric for one side and a solid color on the other. When making a blanket as a gift, you may want to choose patterns that will appeal to your gift recipient. You will also have to consider how large of a blanket you would like to make and have your fabric cut to the desired size.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Atkuz1iCXwI

Step 2: Pin the Fabric
---------------------------------------------------------------------

You will need a flat surface to lay out the fabric. Once you have placed the two pieces of fabric together, you will want to secure it so that you can cut it evenly. Use straight pins and pin the two pieces together. Place the pin approximately four inches from the edge and continue pinning around all four edges.http://www.allkindsofbabystuff.com/no_sew_fleece_blankets.html After you have secured the pieces of fleece together, you can move to the next step.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Atkuz1iCXwI

Step 3: Cut and Tie
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that you have secured the fabric, use standard scissors and begin cutting strips along the edges. Make each strip approximately 1-1 1/2 inches wide and try to make sure that each strip is the same width. Be sure to cut all the way up to the pin line that you created. After you have completed each side it is time to begin tying. Tie each set of fabric strips together. Double knot each set and tie them securely.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Atkuz1iCXwI
