Hey! Thanks for the video response. You're much better at getting your message across than I am. I'm still trying to find my best method of presentation.

One counterpoint I did want bring-up: While stereotypes may help bring a minority into the spotlight, I believe they can make life more difficult for them in the long run. Once that group has been acknowledged by the media, people who don't completely fit into the box society has created have work doubly hard to be understood/accepted.

I'm not taking about the person you were responding to, but it seems fairly popular and typical for people to down play effeminate gay men, I find them very attractive and will admit I am not completely gay, but I would be unhappy if effeminate gay men were pressured to not act as themselves and start acting straight to conform to our current level of cynicism.

Hold it. I agree that effems r OK but how do stereotypes help acceptance? The reason the 1st representations r stereotypes is because it sells more in the media/viewed more when free like on youtube & in some cases nonstereotypes are 2 controversial(such as in the case of women 100 years ago) not bcause the media was trying w further acceptance. The media just wants money&fame. Looking back when the media was >stereotypical there was more h8(remember blackface?). Stereotypes - as acceptance +.

it is annoying how people automatically assume your a different way possibly labeling you with traits that you don't want to have or that aren't you. I think this makes it harder for more masculine gay guys to come out, (conversely easier to stay closeted) because they feel they have to choose between their masculine side and their feminine side, when really you shouldn't be suppressing any part of yourself. hopefully in the future "gay" wont be anything but an accepted reality of life.

I think the problem w/ society in general is looking down at people who we feel are weird or different ie a fear of the unknown.

Even in the gay community we who identify ourselves a certain way judge and often look at other sexualities as strange. Such as gay guys/bi guys judging transvestites and transex, or people judging bi-guys and girls as fakers or sluts.sexuality is just too complex to label and shouldn't be judged. guess that is my problem with the gay stereotype and the other vid too

Both good points. I think it important for people to realize however that the only thing that makes someone gay is an emotional/sexual attraction to the same sex. Do you think crocker's video would have been as big a hit if he was a girl? A part of me feels like people look at him and say "look at this freak".

I just think its funny how he is totally obsessed over Britney.

Really glad you made this video! I consider myself what society would say is more "masculine"...and it really bothers me when masculine gay men create barriers and prejudices against those men who are more effeminate...it's ridiculous.

But I guess we're all at our own identity with ourselves...hopefully the time will come when we are all just more accepting!
