Lyrics are from a Latin poem by Horace. Romans (in general) did not believe in reincarnation like in Hinduism or rebirth in heaven like Christians. They believed in a sad grey afterlife and in importance of leaving something meaningful in the real world. Google "Horace, Ode 2.14" for full text and translation. Its main thought is "Death is inevitable".
