Mr. Coward was sure a brave man that day...

My God, how could anyone's action on the flight deck be characterized as having "froze"? There wasn't time for that, was there? I thought the engines quit right over the threshold. There's no time to react to that. The aircraft is falling out from under you and you are along for the ride.

I remember watching this live on the news, and felt so emotional when everyone started cheering them. I felt like clapping them myself!

@bubeisco I am a catholic as well, and I believe that you should let this person believe what he want's to believe. He has a right to believe in what he wants, doesn't mean he would go to hell, or oblivion, or whatever whoever someone believes in.

my biggest concern about aircarft now is the people employed at airports like baggage handlers and maintainance technicians. security is very slack in all areas. all it would take is a terrorist group to gain employment at airports as a technician or baggage handler. you see the problem is these terrorists work in teams. the chances are terrorists are working at heathrow and the people in on it are turning a blind eye. security needs boosting to maximum.

Imagine if this aircraft had suffered this technical problem on approach at an airport like san francisco where there is a large water crossing or over the atlantic. ITs a good job the engines didn't fail to respond over the atlantic or they may of ended up landing on water. its a good job nobody was seriously injured.

@PenzancePete because in life there are problems and temptations 4 everyone and everyone must face this trials and temptations but then it is your faith that will save you like it saved them.....do u know dat it is God that saved them,if not 4 God then this thing that u are just callin put 2 danger will have put them 2 death....God is 2 faithful 2 fail, give ur life 2 christ jesus and all ur dangers will not lead 2 ur death

@bubeisco So why did God allow these people to be put in danger?
Peter Burkhill was grounded due to the trauma for 6 months. There were rumours going around British Airways that the captain "froze" during the emergency. However, it's been revealed that he made a major adjustment to the flaps whilst John Coward was flying, which kept the plane in the air for just enough time!
British Airways treated Peter Burkhill awfully after the crash - they offered no support at all. He even considered moving to Virgin Airways, but he's back flying with BA now. Great job.
