Eliot Fisk playing the double of the Sarabande from Bach's Bm violin partita on Carla Kelly's rare organic electric classical guitar with a galactic theme- the Stellar Class. This was filmed at a casual get-together at the Fisk residence in 2006.

  • btw it´s a very interesting nicelooking and warmsounding instrument - can you explain us a little more about it ? I can´t quite determin from the clip whether it´s actually got a sound hole or not, -I take it it´s carved in 1 piece, but does that include the neck too, and in what sort of wood ?The fretboard seems mighty wide in the high end. I guess such details were requested from it´s future owner,-lucky guy !

  • I'll try and let Carla do the talking here. She's a writer as well as a luthier and I'd love to get her voice in here. Thanks for the comments!

  • what a drag and frustration it must be for masters at this level being invited out for social events and presumable having a nice time in a friendly cirkle, drinking wine and enjoying yourself and yet you know there´s always this unwritten contract with peoples expectation for you to cast a little touch of glamour on the congregation. With everyone being able to capture and later maybe broadcast f ex on youtube, every little unprepared sample you treat them with, must be damn hard to cope with.

  • Seeing as this was Eliot's throwdown, I doubt these kinds of issues were a problem for him. I know this because he's not one to hold back his opinions! And there's no "unwritten contracts" and weird motives or expectations going on among his friends here... it was a casual get-together of friends and we all like playing music, it's what we do for fun! This was a rare chance for Eliot to play this guitar before it was sent out to its owner.

  • great performance by Fisk.

He sounds a lot better live.

These videos don't show what a great artist

    he really is.

  • of course, having a real human experience with Eliot is surely bar none. But again, this video is mostly for nostalgia. It documents a rare moment where Eliot's artistry was interwoven with Carla's.

  • What a romantic idea...a gathering of talented individuals which gives rise to casual (yet world class, in this case) performances for friends at leisure. I wish we still valued that.

  • lol, man :) everyone knows, that if you're a good artist, nothing you present is unprepared.

  • I think he plays better when he is chilling out, I would love to hear him play like this more often. Thanks fot uploading!

  • There is a sound hole concealed under the fretboard, for external mic-ing. Neck is cedar--28 frets (handy for transposing), and the very-low action gives it superb sustain without sacrificing volume for larger venues--because it has two pickups (K&K Trinity System) which can be mixed or played independently. It weighs 5.5#, is French polished, and fits into a standard classical case. My favorite comment about it was the old man who asked Sean, "Did you grow that yourself?"

  • @FenceThis

The Stellar Class is an "organic" electric/acoustic classical. The b/s are one piece, carved a 3"-thick block of royal cedar (like Spanish cedar). The "splat" bridge is glued onto the 3/4"-thick paulownia top and carved as part of the bracing--on top of the guitar--no internal bracing needed. There is a "singing hole" on the top bass bout. When played without amplification it is about as load as a parlor guitar--great for practicing or simply hanging out.

  • Who says we dont value that anymore? What a strange comment...

  • -and we all appreciate that you put out this clip and gave us the chance to get an impression of the instruments qualities, don´t get me wrong.I´m aware ofcourse that this is not a performance in that sense of the word.I was merely just airing some general concerns on behalf of professional musicians as such, never meant to accuse anyone for taking advantage of others or anything like it,but as you descripe Mr Fisk`s personality I guess he´s fully capable of handling such situations anyway ;-)

  • Again, I don't think Eliot had a dilemma here... this wasn't even about performing! He was just trying out a cool new instrument for fun. Also, I posted this video mostly because it is a rare clip of the Stellar Class before it was shipped out to it's owner in Arizona. It actually incidental that Eliot happens to be playing it, wonderful as it is.
