looks like a 3rd world country

I realize that was a rhetorical question. But read a history book please. Or at least skim wikipedia.

I was born and raised in the Bronx. My mom is from the Islands though. But when she used to tell me stories about the Bronx being a dump and burned down by most of the Latino's i thought she was making it up or something. Watching this video just opened my eyes. It is developing though. They just need to get rid of the rapist and other criminals.

This is what probably gave the filmmakers the idea for the movie Escape From New York - where they turned the entire city (well I should say just Manhattan) into the world's largest prison. I've seen those pics of Charlotte Street looking like a nuclear warzone, and during a World Series game at Yankee Stadium I think in 1977 there was a fire going on right outside the stadium and they were showing it on TV and everything.

@T289c What was the cause of White Flight?

Only a fool talks of things about which he is ignorant. You are a Canadian and you ought to stick with evaluating the history of your own country. Some of these scenes are not too long after the Jim Crow era ended in the 1960's, if you know what that is.
No, THIS WAS DONE TO THEM, for years and years. The tragic part of human nature however is that it is hard for people to pull themselves out of something when it is all they have ever known.

Absolutely false. These condition were created by the ABSENCE of "Laissez Faire B.S." They were created by the intervention of a racist state system that crafted laws giving inferior status to one group, and superior status to another. It was created precisely because Blacks were NOT permitted to participate on equal terms with Whites within a Laissez Faire system. That is aristocracy, not the Laissez Faire system

how the fuck did a ron paul supporter end up in the top comments? it's the complete laissez-faire bullshit he supports that got communities like the south bronx into this horrible predicament in the 20th century.

@JHulse29 100% True, never has and never will

@PsychoNYC718 It would make perfect since for a city of this magnitude to have slums of equal magnitude. The haves will always be surrounded by the have nots.
Most if not all of the major cities had areas that looked like this in the 70s - 80s. The industrial age had pretty much ended, we where at the end of the Vietnam war, and the economy was horrible. Things got better shorty after the Reagan years. We boomed until 2008. The bad, good ole days are coming back right now. Wars, and a busted economy are on tap for the next several years if not decades. We have one shot to turn it around. RP2012!

are you sure this is the wealthist country in the world? looks more like Stalingrad in 1943 or Berlin in 1945. sad thing is, no one bombed this place, they did it to themselves.
