The Northwest coast of the Big Island experiences several high wind events each year. Annually winds will gust up to 60mph, and every five to ten years the winds will gust over 80mph.

The March 9, 2010 trade winds, along with the winds ten days before on February 28, were the strongest I personally have seen since 2006.

This is also my first film using my new HD camera!

  • Windy (Sunny) then Windy (Rain)?

  • @SuperMario3442 That's Hawaii weather for you. Weird thing is the winds were completely still only a mile or so away from where this was filmed.

  • Hey Max.

Those winds look like a hurricane is close by but the blue sky is a dead give away,Lol. Great quality.

  • @cyclonejimcom Thanks Jim! It was some consultation for all of 2009.

  • Nice HD quality, and the wind is very powerful! Love the new video!!

  • on 0:06 the trash can is funny and so is the mini tree

  • Yeah, the trade winds always seem to accelerate in the saddle between Mauna Kea and the Kohala mountains. The same thing never happens with the Kona winds, though, so whenever the winds are from the SW there are never any places on the Big Island as windy as northern Oahu.

As for my camera, it's a Panasonic HDC - SD10.

So far its been pretty freekin cool.

  • flying is cool.

  • That looked really cool with he dust coming down the mountain (Kohala?). Nice one! Was really windy in Honolulu but our low mountains gave not as much blocking and downslope effect as you got over there. BTW which camera did you buy?
