Take a tour of Himeji Castle in Himeji, Japan -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

Japan, like Europe, has many wonderful medieval castles, though they are of a distinctly different style.

The largest and best preserved castle in the country is Himeji Castle in Himeji, Japan.

Many people know the castle as the White Egret Castle, referring to its gleaming color and soaring design.

The castle grew out of a small fort that was built on this hill in 1333.

Throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth century, Himeji Castle grew and expanded to the shape that it has today.

Because of its history and great beauty, the castle has been made into a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
