  • they guy in Doira is really good , No offense Doctor miller

  • Great work again - John Bonham eat your heart out:)

  • On more thing, whar is most vital is maintaining a tradition exactly as we find it and seeking the oldest forms to preserve and keep alive. Although some technical skills were passed down from the ancient masters, the emphasis is on the actual sound, phrases, the melodies and having a polished mirror of the soul by following a pure lifestyle like Daniel and Samson not, for instance, whether you use the right hand index finger to play setar or the right hand for the dum on zarb. Dr. Lloyd Miller

  • Salam. what I mean is that before Tehrani taught his set of techniques for zarb, it was the result that was important rather than which hand went where and how the various patterns were created. In Afghanistan and other countries, there were many various wierd ways to play zerbaghali or dhol and they didn't have a Honarestan-e Melli or National Academy where only one person's technique was enforced on everyone just like Western classical music schools. Rajabi plays great backwards. Dr. Miller

  • oh lloyd, you're my hero! i'm posting this on my myspace

  • Salam. Actually there is no rule in authentic traditional music, those rules came with the invasion of Western classical music and its effort to "improve" Eastern traditions and, when possible, steal their oil or other resources. I am left handed and use my left for the 'dum' because it is easier. Who cares what it looks like or if it is Hossein Tehrani approved. In Afghanistan I saw every imaginable type of tecnique. Persian zarb master and friend Rajabi playes totally left. Dr. Lloyd Miller

  • I think the technique on the tombak is off, should be doing the "tom" with the other hand
