In this video I show you some cranberries in the wild. Right now is cranberry harvest time in the NJ Pine Barrens. They can be found growing wild in wetlands all over the Pine Barrens. These ones are along the shores of Makepeace Lake, in Atlantic County.

Here's the aerial photo of the lake. I was along the southwestern shore of the larger eastern lake. http://tinyurl.com/yzshpr4

I also show some Spatulate-leaf Sundew, a carnivorous plant, and then some Fall Foliage and some Pitch Pines.

  • Thanks for showing this nice area. I never

saw a vid on cranberries before. Do they

prefer the tannic water over more fresh ?

The fact that they float is why they can be

    harvested so easily.

  • Yes. Cranberries thrive in acidic water. Cranberries and blueberries are native to the Pine Barrens and do exceptionally well here. If I can do it, I'd like to visit a commercail bog this weekend and maybe do a little filming there during harvest. I've never actually watched a harvest in person.

  • Great video! I love cranberries. Juice or sauce. Isn't there a turkey oak? Peace

  • Thank you. Yes, there is. I've heard of them, but we don't have them in South Jersey. I'm not sure even what they look like. I'll have to Google that name.

  • So now I see what the wild Cranberries look like! They have to grow very close to the water. Some folks can tolerate the tartness of them, I dunno about myself. I wonder though if it'd cure my tooth infection problem?

I love cranberry juice but I know its diluted.

Also some great shapes there as well. Looks like all the oaks have changed there, believe it or not, alot of oaks still haven't changed up here yet. I guess it gets colder there.
