Cameron and Xian review a pair of turn-of-the-century stage magician films, surprisingly released less than a month from each other.

  • The prestige was so much better tha the ilusionist.

  • How did you predict what was happening in the prestige?? The Illusionist was so predictable, a very good film, but so predictable. The Prestige has so much more depth and story in it, a better film in my opinion.

  • The third act bothered her? You mean were the great Danton started multiplying himself and then killing himself and the other dude had a twin brother that were both sharing the same woman since the beggining. Sorry if I ruined it for anyone, I agree that the third act was crazy and was quite DIFFERENT than the first 2/3 of the movie. What does anyone else think?

  • Is the person on the left really a woman or a transgendered...?

  • i watched both in same day and must say both of them blew my mind away.

  • Christ, what a boring review. Just like being at a dinner party with any other group of people trying to sound smart.

  • @Carrossea So basically, I thought that The Prestige is just a better film because it is more in-depth, layered, and complex, with stronger, phenomenal performances from ALL actors/actresses.

  • @Carrossea Continuing...I liked The Illusionist only for the ending. Throughout the film I felt like the plot wasn't going anywhere. I didn't care much for the plot and I felt no connection with the characters mainly because of the lack of character development. The ending is somewhat predictable but very well done. There were some parts of the ending I didn't predict so I liked that part about The Illusionist. The cast isn't amazing either other than Norton, Giamatti, and Sewell's performances.

  • @Carrossea Continuing... The Prestige is in itself a magic trick: The Pledge, The Turn, and The Prestige. They repeat things in the movie to EMPHASIZE its importance. You know this more once watch The Prestige multiple times, especially after you have seen the ending. That is when you start noticing things you haven't noticed throughout the film. The Prestige is also better because it has a better storyline, stronger character development, phenomenal cast, and a layered, complex plot/theme.

  • I liked your review, and your metaphor on how The Illusionist is "in front of the curtains" while The Prestige is "behind the curtains". Though IMO, The Prestige is way, way better. I was hooked from start to finish. I do agree that the ending is a bit disappointing (the secret to the trick), but honestly, that is how magic tricks work. You are only mesmerized when you don't know the secret. Once you do, it is somewhat disappointing. I love how the whole movie is also set up as a magic trick.

  • prestige was way better...

  • the prestige was a great movie! Did not see that plot twist coming.
