4/19/2008 - I made the 10 minute drive down to the small town of McBean, GA, located on the border of Richmond & Burke Counties. Here we see NS 191 breaking the silence and highballs through town with an AWESOME horn solute after he passes the Highway 56 crossing. NOTE: The crossing seen after I pan the locomotive is out of service due to a derailment that happened at this spot I'm filming from.

  • Ricer @ 0:00 LOL

  • HUH? lol

  • a tractor trailer came down hwy.56 to fast and ran into the train right?

  • I believe so but I'm not 100% positive b/c this is my first year here in Augusta, but I know a truck was involved though...

  • He is right. It was about 5-6 years ago this fall when that happened. I think it killed the driver and derailed a few bulkhead cars that closed the road near McBean.

Nice place to catch them, of course for some reason I have a thing for single track so, McBean really works for me. Plus, they always give a extra toot.

  • Yea love it especially the fact they're haulin' ass outta town! But I didn't get a chance to catch 4610 the other day...must've snuck through while I was sleep!

  • I know that down here in Florida, at CSX's Wildwood yard, there is an abandoned crossing on the farside of the yard back in the neighborhood. The cantilevers are still in place but the rails dead end into the bushes and vines are beginning to crawl up the signals. It must of been a spur to an industry at one time.

  • A ricer is like a modified import car from japan that makes that rumbling exhaust sound that u hear @ the beginning of the vid.

  • Iv'e never seen a out of service crossing before. 5/5.

  • Yep, that is great. Well, the good thing is 4610 is assigned to our divison. That means we will be able to catch it more often in the south than another place. It will return, I don't think NS will paint it anytime soon. It sucked knowing 155 had 4610 on him with me being in Arizona. With me back home hopefully it will return to Augusta.
