Yeah, well, nothing really happened. It's Illinois, after all. Nothing ever happens here. Mostly.

  • I was in a "little" earthquake once..but thought that a heavy truck was driving by my house...Only later did I find out that it actually was a quake...

In this case..seems to me that YOU actually may have caused it by what you said to your mom :-)

  • Well, that wouldn't have been the first time I bent the natural laws of the Cosmos by saying something stupid.

  • Geology is a curious thing people think the past represents the future it is just the opposite. I want to build a dome home a man said "you will never be able to sell it" I said "I am not building it to sell" he said "you don't have to worry about a cat 5 storm here or a tornado" he is giving me advice on what to build as if he has the crystal ball. Domes are not worth much until all the homes in the neighborhood are piled up down the road in the dump then they are nice then.Plan for anything.

  • I don't know, man. A geodesic home is a rather expensive way to prepare for geological/weather disaster, y'know? Isn't there a more mobile, less drastic means of keeping one's family prepared?

  • Depends on how you view things the dome has other redeeming features such as using 1/3 the energy of a well insulated home. Shell is near the same price as stick built structure you can look them up google ai domes and monolithic domes (MDI) MDI has more information about them. But if your home is that efficient it isn't a stretch to switch to a home that is off grid never pay another light bill again.

  • "Off the grid" is kinda misleading. You may come off the electrical grid, possibly, but there are a host of other residential services that make life a lot easier. Think of water, sewer, gas, Internet access, etc.

  • Well, maybe if the local fish had been disturbed I would have had something to talk about...

  • I'm underwhealmed by your lack of drama, Marty. Ha,ha!

  • Yeah, the cats make a habit of getting me up in the middle of the night whether they need to or not. Sometimes I just want to toss them in the basement and close the door. Then they'll cry, of course. Oy.

So, the quake may not have had any effect here at all. Can't tell.

  • I am about 20 miles north of you. The dog woke me up around that time, I let her out thinking she needed to .... I did not feel anything myself nor did our neighbors.
