How to check clearances and shim valves for shim under bucket style heads.

Yes I know the bike did not have any compression in the video, I knew ahead of time that the exhaust valve was stuck open. That is why I took it apart and I thought I would just do a how to in the process.

Enjoy! and if you have any questions just ask!

  • Same thing is happening to my buddies bike. Figured it was valves needing adjustment, went to kick it today and bamm.... compression drastically decreased leading me to believe the exhaust valve is open. How do we solve this issue? Please reply or message me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks and great video.

  • @TheKillgore521 Nice, glad to hear its working again!

  • @RandomWeekendVideo Just putted all the parts in it and my bike as a ton load of compression right now :D It's starts 1st or 2nd kick now :D I'm glad I did those costs to it.

  • @TheKillgore521 Sounds like a good deal hope it works out for you, if all goes well just keep a close eye on it and it should last you a long time

  • @RandomWeekendVideo Hey I found out that my top end where the valves are located had been welded a few times by the guy who used it before me there were also a few parts broken off wich didn't seem healthy for me. The seats were worn out and there valves were junk. I bought a used head for 400 euro's now. And a new camshaft + piston kit. Cost me about 800 euro's all together. I hope it's worth it. Because i love riding my dirtbike :D

  • @RandomWeekendVideo But cycle it through a few times and watch the valves making sure you have everything right (having the spark plug out prevents it from starting and from building compression which will allow you to spin the engine with ease)

Let me know how it works out

    Jason

  • @TheKillgore521 Thanks for the comment, if you are unsure of whether or not you have done it right, leave the spark plug out and slowly turn the engine over, if it binds then you probably have a valve hitting the piston DO NOT FORCE IT just go ahead and check your timing and cam position.

  • Thx this video was really helpfull.

I have some problems with my crf250r. It starts real hard and sometimes it just doesn't.

I also found out that it has low compression. When i kick it. it feels like it want's to start but doesn't have enough power to. So first off i'ma buy a new sprark plug. If that doesn't work wich i'm sure off. I'll try your guide and check my clearance. I've always wanted to do it before but I was afraid of ruining my bike and having more costs.

  • hockplaya are u sure the crankshaft is in the right position? u need to find top dead center.

  • @CUMMINSM11 you dont have to but i think its good practice so everything is always in place, just my 2 cents
