We interview senior research specialist Chris Wieczorek following the burn demonstration at the FM Global Research Facility. The test was part of a new research project, a collaborative effort of the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition and FM Global, that's looking at the environmental impact of home fires.
I get that sprinklers can reduce environmental impacts from house fires. This is an angle I haven't seen much on in the past. Does anyone have data to say what the overall carbon impact of house fire is in contributing to climate change? This would need to consider both the fire itself, the potential methane from landfilling the waste, the construction of new house, etc etc. Analysis like this is critical in evaluating the relative importance of any green claim.
