During a dissection of pig lungs in my anatomy class, we decided to try and inflate them to see how big they were. The lungs came from a pig slaughtered to make breakfast sausage, so they're not preserved. The haven't even had the blood washed off them. They are fresh lungs - killed about 36 hours before we dissected them.
It would've been better without the retarded school girl commentary.
