No official true stereo version of this 1966 #1 smash hit has ever been released, but this is the best attempt I've heard so far, created by combining elements of the stereo instrumental track together with the mono vocal track. The result is far superior to the ghastly Duophonic version that is often passed off as a so-called "stereo mix" of the song.

  • sorry to critique, but this sounds like records that were put out in the 1960s of mono songs that were labeled "electronically enhanced for stereo".

  • @mrlopez2681 If you listen closely, there are voices and instruments coming out of only the left or right channel. This would not be possible if it was a "simulated stereo" mix.

  • @vwest1ife I've listened to a few "stereo" versions, and yours is by far the best mix. Only Brian Wilson could do better. Could you send me a link or email where I can listen to your highest quality bit rate version?

    Good job!!

  • @5thbeatle1000 This is not my work. I got it as an MP3 on a file sharing site many years ago.

  • Check out the version I made in my videos. True stereo and no weird panning. The transitions have also been made much more smooth. I'm very pleased with it. Please comment. =)

  • @matttattack Your version sounds more contemporary, but the "weird panning" is how most stereo music was originally done in the 1950s and '60s, due to the limitations of the recording and mixing equipment of the time, as well as a desire to show off the full effect that stereo sound can deliver.

  • its a very good sounding song...not bad at all

  • Dude, this mix is sooo good! Thanks for making it

  • Is this true stereo??

  • @donaldinks Well I finally listened to Disc 5 of the box set and the "stereo single mix" which is Track 22 on the disc is simply the backing track mixed to stereo....no vocals. Gosh dang it, WHO STOLE THAT MULTI-TRACK TAPE OF THE VOCALS?! Is it sitting in someone's garage somewhere?!

  • @donaldinks You know what, I'm not sure. On Disc 5 of the deluxe box set "Good Vibrations (Stereo Single Mix)" is listed in the tracks. Now whether it's gonna be an original stereo mix I have no idea. Or if it's gonna include the "hum-de-um" vocals in the later part of the song (I so wish it would, if "GV" had made it to an album, excluding "Smiley Smile," that part would have probably been included).

  • @MattHatter Yes... but will we FINALLY get the STEREO studio versions... that have never been released (or even RECORDED IN THE STUDIO) before? I don't believe we will. It looks like this is going to be a collection of the studio tapes put together, just as "The Pet Sounds Sessions" were... but I'm hoping I'm wrong. Good Vibrations in the ORIGINAL Stereo Mix (If there ever WAS one...) is the "Holy Grail" for me... :-)
  • That's pretty awesome. Best I've ever heard the song. Thanks for your great remix!

  • @vwest1ife - I like this stereo version. However, I don't think Brian Wilson could do better.

He's deaf in one ear and can't hear in stereo.

He became deaf in that ear after his father Murray beat him.

  • @vwest1ife Can you send me the file to my email please???

  • I like hearing what wasn't able to be heard before. But I'm still disappointed that there's no echo effect where they harmonize at the ending of the song. Has that effect been lost forever? It was that effect that truly made this song of of the most unique psychedelic songs from this era.

  • @Bashedyourfacein True but why swear

  • @rmaxw69 If you use audicity, a little gin to ease the time, and a lot of patience, the phasing can be controlled. The major hurdle, about 4 seconds into the song, all mono mixes get out of sync with any backing track. My friend capitolemiproducer posted his true stereo ix, took him 3 weeks to get it and it still slips. But check it out

  • great fucking video

  • Stereo mix aside, this is a good attempt but the two recordings that were combined are not perfectly synced and are thus slipping in and out of phase with each other.

  • i love this psychedelic classic

  • For all of you contemplating what Brian Wilson would say to this stereo track, I think he'd say, "I'm fucking deaf in one ear!"

That aside, this is a pretty interesting piece of work, and much different that just the the mono-reprocessed for stereo shit that used to get released.

That Brian Wilson was able to produce such an incredible body of work, (especially this masterpiece) in mono and with only one good ear is a testament to his immense talent. Thanks for posting.

  • Smoke a Joint to this song haha I could

  • Four words: That's what she said.

  • excellent sound!

btw, the voices sound pretty damn stereo to me...

  • What a fantastic find! I like how you can hear the little mix nuances that only a 60's stereo mix would give you. Mono allowed so many little "faults" to be hidden. If it was mixed into stereo today it would probably sound "ultra mono" eg a stereo replica of the mono mix.

  • @vwest1ife I've listened to a few "stereo" versions and yours is by far the best mix. Only Brian Wilson could do better. Could you send me a link or email where I can listen to your highest quality bit rate version?

    Good job!!

  • Great version. You did a wonderful job remixing a song that's almost lost as MONO ONLY. If I get to hear GV and I GET AROUND in stereo, I'll be like in heaven...
