Classic Sesame Street: Lemmings 1-40 (better quality)

From Episode 2946: Cliff-diving lemmings (a pun on the a capella singers' group name) count to 40 in song. For some odd reason, I thought there had been another giant lemming at the bottom of the cliff--even bigger than #30!--breaking the first thirty-nine guys' fall; but I stand corrected.

NOTE: I dubbed the Lemmings' original recording--minus the sound effects that CTW threw in later!-- over a video copy with a better picture. Many thanks to balana84 and MJButterman for uploading their clips!

Where did you actually get the Lemmings original recording? And what's the real group name so I can look them up?

@NEUDude: The group who performed this IS called the Lemmings, which inspired Jon Stone (Sesame Street's former creative director) to suggest using cartoon animals instead of the original proposal--a series of bright-colored numbers in claymation. Do a Google search for "Lemmings Wuntafordy original" on this site; you'll find the rejected clip, with the Lemmings perforning the soundtrack.

Nice clip, but there's a mistake. There are actually only thirty-nine lemmings. They all sing the forty part together.

@Garrettk41: Exactly why I mentioned my "wrong memory" in the description...I had always thought there was a 40th lemming, but learned differently last night. Wonder if the cartoonist was thinking "D'oh!" by the time CTW got a copy? :-)

One answer to "If all your friends jumped off a cliff, would you jump off too?" In this case, it's a fairly short cliff, and it never hurts to have a fun song to sing as you do.
