It seems as if there are more Jamaicans living in NYC,England and Japan put 2getha than in Kingston! People leaving their homeland for the "GreenerGrass" We need to start giving back to our country rather than leaving and giving up .

You are not being honest. The GG does not desolve parliament. He does so when a prime minister directs him to do so. Concerning a bill bocoming law: that bill first has to come from the house and senate, then he excercises the sovereignty vested in him by the peole to enact. Its symbolic, NOT AT HIS DISCRETION OR THE QUEEN'S. I think you need to read more about the whole concept of sovereignty and its forms trough history up to today. Then you will see the symbolic nature of the monarchy today.

A vestige - constitution: Part ii (60) 1.
" A Bill shall not become law until the Governor-General has assented thereto in Her Majesty's name and on Her Majesty's behalf and has signed it in token of such assent. "
Part iii
(1) The Governor-General may at any time by Proclamation published in the Gazette prorogue or dissolve Parliament.
additionally the GG can remove the Prime Minister and appoint a new one at his discretion.
A vestige with immense power.

Kingdom or a democracy. In democracies the people are sovereign. This is expressed in two common institutions (1) A republic with a presidency (2) A constitutional monarchy. Jamaica is a democracy. The monarchy is simply a vestigial form of the old kingdom where the king was sovereign. The sovereinty of the people is represented by the monarchy that only excercises ceremonial powers, please read chapter IV, sections 32 & 33 of the Jamaica constitution. The powers and duties of the GG.

The monarch is, in theory, the supreme governor of each of the Commonwealth realms.
The present monarch is Elizabeth II officially titled Queen of Jamaica who has reigned since August 6, 1962.

Jamaica legally belongs to the queen of england. The GG has a huge amount of powers that is never excercised.
On Canada, many people were shocked to find out that the GG could do that.
The head of state of Jamaica is the queen

Fine!! Call it circular. But this cycle has to be broken by leadership, you cant get around that. A bunch of people in a country cant effectively or properly bring about these changes, that power must be concentrated into the hands of leadership. Look at what happened to france when the mob executed the king and tried to bring about chane. It took them years and many generations to pull themselves back together again. Our leaders have to break the cycle!!!

I dont know what happened in Canada, but that constitutional arrangement of which you speak does not put that power into the hands of the GG, it does, howerver, put it in the hands of the government and the prime minister. That situation is where our rights as citizens may be suspended in those scenarios to preserve public order and all that. This one instance of why we need constitutional reform, to lay the ground rules right. Our rights are to be respected regardless of whatever.

thankyou for the info. u r more well versed in jamaican politics than i.
according to wikipedia: GovGen "...possess reserve powers under the constitution which would allow them full control of the nation's governance whenever in their opinion a case of emergency requiring such action arises"
Not to imply that jamaica's lack of independence is unique. Just look at what happened in Canada 2008 where the GG suspended parliament.

we r not alone.

its kind of a circular argument what came first the chicken or the edd, i think we are both right the two go hand and hand, bad leaders encourageing perhaps creating bad culture and many of those leaders came from bad culture, but no i am not atgainst Jamaica i think in the end a minority of evil people is hurting the good people who simply cant and dont know how to deffend themselves jamaica still has alot of good people and good culture

Thats the thing; as apeople we need synergy to put what you've mentioned into practice, that can only come from leadership which brings us back to our leadership problem. Who will unite us as a people around these issues so we may move forward? the worst infighting is in parliament, they cant agree on anything they just want their party to be in office, not the good of Jamaica, their PARTY. This kind of behavior , from where i stand is strongest in the PNP righ now. Party first!!
Man we dont have to agree on everything about these men. What we need to do is stop the in-fighting and agree to help our people any which way we can. We all have different ideas and different methods. Lets ALL put them to work to help better Jamaica as a land and as a people. One Love to all of you.
