As a coda to their teaching gig in Japan in March 2011, Gene Murrow and Orly Krasner led a session this July to record an instructional video to send to the dancers in Japan. This dance, Jack by the Hedge, comes from Jan Dale's "A Concise Flora for Dancers" and is graced by two tunes from the extraordinary tune smith John Stapledon.

Jan's instructions in B1 read "First corners set forward, then turn about right to stand back to back in the middle of the set." You'll see here a common variation on this move, in which the dancers set in place; then move forward and turn about on the last beat of the phrase.

The music is from a CD by The West Kirby Band, with John Stapledon himself playing accordion. Orly is calling. Thanks to the teachers and all the dancers, who labored so diligently and with such good humor to reach a level of precision appropriate to an instructional video.
