Im about to smash my laptop on the ground and run it over. I have the same laptop and the same problem. I have taken it all apart and cleaned the shit out of my fan and nothing. It is the most annoying sound i have ever heard. It's like it's grinding against something. It use to stop when i would tap it but now it just ROARS LOUDER THAN EVER. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRR -
HP Support sucks. I have all the latest drivers and it still only works about 50%
Of the time. There tech support sucks big time. I will never buy another of there printers again.
In fact, I will never buy any of there products again Unless im willing to spend a whole day trying to get help from there support

Thanks seejay, the plastic piece i'm talking about is black. And is directly behind the grill. Like if you stuck a paper clip to touch the fan you could not because the plastic piece is there. I have not taken it apart yet but will probably today.
You are going to build your own laptop?

Hey you guys that have taken it apart. There is a flimsy piece of plastic just behind the intake grill. Why is it there? It seems to block air from passing through. Can you remove it, did you remove it to get more / better air flow? I had a keyboard problem like 8 months in but its only very rarely a problem. Actually kinda went away. But this fan is killing me. Will you guys buy HP again?

if you mean the the sticky silver bit at the back connecting the fan to the grill I just removed it, doesn't make much difference I think its just there to hold the both together. You need to remove it in order to switch the fan, HP are ok but in all honesty in future I'll build my own PC
