  • Gianni is just pulling Lauretta to the door when Rinuccio stops him, begging him to help them out with the will. Gianni angrily points to the relatives: "To help these people? Never! Never! Never!"

At this point Lauretta sinks to her knees and begins to wheedle her father in a celebrated and highly artificial arietta ("Oh! mio babbino caro"). She desperately wants to marry Rinuccio, and if their love is in vain she will throw herself off the Ponte Vecchio into the Arno.

  • And to think hat June took over the Lucia di Lammermoors from Joan Sutherland at Covent Garden but nobody seems to remember that. It just marked her talent, although she never reappeard at Covent Garden.

  • A lovely lady, and a gifted and versatile performer. At times, her classical singing lacked discipline, but the voice itself was very warm and beautiful.

  • The english Lyrics are a bit different I think than some of the other english lyrics I have heard in other versions of this translation. Do you know what these lyrics are that she sings in this version? The first part sounds like oh my beloved daddy. How could you be so cruel? But then I am not sure.. I know you posted this 2 years ago but I would really appreciate it! Thank You!!!

  • There are some notes in this very reminiscent of Joan Hammond

  • I was entranced when I saw you sing villier in Melbourne. I have never forgotten.. You were so beautiful. A lasting memory.

  • June was one of the nicest and most talented singers to come from Australia.

I fist saw here as Gretel at Sadlers Wells when I was a child.

Saw her in so many productions in London including Robert & Elizabeth and her one off guest appearance at the Coliseum for the Merry Widow. I late saw her in Australia in Melbourne in Pirates of Penzance and a later in a one woman concert.

She became a friend over the years and her voice lives on in the many superb recordings.

  • What a great talent.I saw her in the Sound of Music ,and as Elizabeth Browning. She was a wonderful personality

  • So underated, such a great talent, great timbre and thrilling notes.

    sadly missed, and sorely loved.

    Sing on.

  • When, in gianni schicci, does this song come up?
