Layar - Introducing: Layar Vision

Layar Vision is an extension of the Layar platform, taking augmented reality to the next level. Layar Vision allows the creation of layers and applications that recognize real world objects and display digital experiences on top of them.

Layar Vision uses detection, tracking and computer vision techniques to augment objects in the physical world. It can tell which objects in the real world are augmented because the visual fingerprints of the objects are preloaded into the application based on the user's layer selection.

My point was just that it isn't AR to the next level. And I've done this as well, AR with markers... I'm in video games buddy.

But yeah, to create it without markers would qualify as "next level". No it isn't easy, one might say it is the holy grail of AR. You will need to have a neural net learning system of some sort to be able to create recognitions for several kinds of shapes. No it won't recognize everything, but my point was, this isn't the "next level" as this video claims.

And how would that actually work? You think a phone app is going to recognise everything in the world just by looking at it?

This app performs two specific tasks: 1) it recognises predefine imagery, 2) it uses GPS location information.

How about you jump down off that high horse and program your own magic app that recognises everything in the world without any sort of image cue.

Hmmm. I've had this app for over a year and was just about to delete it from my phone. I guess I'll give it a go.

Layer is cool but there is no logos around. People need to sign up as developers and create stuff.

Interface with real world objects via markers... nice work Layar, I was really thinking this was going to be an actual advancement in tech, it is the same old bullshit AR. Try actually doing AR by actually recognizing real world objects without markers!
