    when you need to defend yourself, you just do what seems most appropriate - the different techniques train your body to move in a powerful way through all the different possible shape variations. so you might do something that's a mix of more than one technique... I think that's possibly a different emphasis - our techniques are meant to just be examples of powerful harmonious movement. The result might be the same in other arts though, even if the rationale is different.

  • does knowing so many different moves hinder you when the time comes? do you feel resorting back the basics helps more in a real life situation? we practice a lot of throws in judo, but i also know the advanced throws are for advanced people, and a basic throw will work on the street. our throws steem from just a few different moves, so it is easy to stick to the basics. is your art the same.
