There are so many great hits I could have chosen from, given Paul Anka is one of the pioneering giants of Rock and had so many hits. But I wanted to pick one that always delighted me in every way and for this reason I chose "Dance On Little Girl". This was Paul Anka's 23rd single, and his last top 10 hit for ABC-Paramount shortly before he signed with RCA Victor. Although he would have more top 20 hits for RCA, he would not chart in the top 10 again until 1974, when "(You're)Having My Baby" reached #1 for the United Artist Label.

"Dance On Little Girl" reached #10 during the beginning of Summer in 1961. A great song with a captivating melody, with its danceable swaying "cha-cha" beat. It's Anka at his songwriting best, giving us a charming melody with fun lyrics and his trademark impassioned singing.

In late 1961 in the dead of Winter in cold, cold Rome, New York, I came to know a boy named Felipe Vilar, his two older sisters were teenagers then, and they were crazy about Paul Anka. They would play his "21 Golden Hits" album and use us boys as their dancing partners, we had a lot fun prancing around the room on those cold days to Paul's music...and with those memories in mind, I dedicate this video to the Vilar sisters wherever they may be. I never saw Felipe or his sisters after 1962, they moved out West; yet every time I hear one of Paul's early hits, I still fondly think of them. It is through them that I came to appreciate Paul Anka's music and I thank them for that.

Enjoy singing along with this fun song, please see lyrics below:

DANCE ON LITTLE GIRL

Dance dance on little girl
In the arms of someone new
As you dance as you twirl
My heart dances with you

Dance dance on little girl
Tell me what I've done wrong
Why should he hold you tight
While they're playing our song

I am watching you
Oh no no it cannot be
While I'm watching you
I'm wishing, hoping it's for me

Dance dance on little girl
Tell me why did we part
Dance dance on little girl
Dance out of my heart

I am watching you
Oh no no it cannot be
While I'm watching you
I'm wishing, hoping it's for me

Dance dance on little girl
Tell me why did we part
Dance dance on little girl
Dance out of my heart
Oh look at you
There you go go go
Oh yes you know
That you're wrong wrong wrong.....

  • It looks as if between Neil Sedaka and Paul Anka, we both have great musical taste! Thank you for posting this one. I've met the very talented Paul Anka, a great thrill for me! I'm from Toronto and we affectionately refer to him as our Canadian Idol! From my understanding about the song "My Way", he did write the lyrics and the music is apparently a French song. With songs like "Diana" and "Put Your Head On My Shoulder", it's amazing when you think that he wrote those in his teen years!

  • @lovesmusic36 How neat that you have met him. I have seen him perform twice once in the 1980's and another time in 2003. He was great both times, a consummate and classy showman. "Diana" and "Put Your Head On My Shoulders" along with this one are my favorites songs by him. Thank you for your post.

  • The innocence of this song is gone forever and this Country is the poorer for it.

  • @KnightVow You are so correct. We who remember this country then are very fortunate. Thank you for posting.

  • I'm sure wherever the Vilar's are, this music reminds them of you as well. Thanks for the upload!

  • @KingScorpio88 What a kind and thoughtful comment. Many thanks!

  • woah I'm 15 and I think this song is awesome :D I'm tempted to make a video of me dancing/tap dancing this!

  • JUST MADE IT... In 1961 "Dance On Little Girl" peaked at No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and it spent a total of 10 weeks in the Top 100...

  • ]@lucripet what were we innocent or naive why have I turned cynical??? I miss those days so very much

  • Love the picture of the children dancing. The happiness and fun that shows in their faces brings back many happy memories.

  • para Silvia de Jalisco

  • Sounds like LET THE LITTLE GIRL DANCE by Billy Bland.

  • Is he in the RR Hall of Fame? If not he needs to be.

  • @lucripet cont'd: At the 20 year reunion, and the 30 year reunions, they were a mess, and the former plain janes had great lives and looked better than ever. And Susan, she could dance like they did on Bandstand. happlily married lady though. I am so happy for them who blossomed later; they put up with all the crap but just kept their eyes on the prize.. and won the victory. and Mary B still loves the Lord.. and it shows

  • @lucripet Time heals wounds? I often ponder that, I think wisdom heals them. We realize that we had misplaced affections, liked women fo rthe wrong reasons (Sex appeal being a the biggie) and were being controlled by a world that ojnly wanted to defeat us. Sounds like a conspiracy theory, but I kind of see it that way. and the sexy women of our teen years. How did they turn out?
