APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS, W. Va. -- The United States is known as the Saudi Arabia of coal, with over 50 percent of our electricity generated by this abundant natural resource.

Coal also generates tremendous controversy. Much of the debate centers not on pollution, but getting the coal out of the ground.

  • @STORMLORD70 Nope, I've owned my own advertising agency for the last 15 years. I also grew up in the coal fields and saw first had the destruction of mountain top removal. Unfortunately, once the hills are gone, so is clean water and farmable land. Can't plant in soil full of explosive waste. I'm WV born and DAMN PROUD OF IT! So before you think you've found another tree hugger that's not a part of the WV community THINK AGAIN! I'm not so naive to think the big coal has my back!

  • @handspun Where are you drawing your paycheck from the communist party the eniviromental movement

  • @STORMLORD70 You probably need to rethink the ignorant comment considering your spelling and punctuation skills are lacking... It's not too difficult to figure out you're drawing a check from a mining company. Oh well, much love to you and the endangered species living in your slurry pond.

  • @MultiRisingStar You get your greener choices in due time poverty like you never soon before i hope you enjoy the day you have no more electric in your home hey you are using it you are part of the problem live by your words.

  • @handspun You don't know what you are talking about the trees will come back in due time i have seen strip mine land with lots of trees on it. Yeah even in one of our ponds on mine land a so called endangered specie was found in the wetland we made you are ignorant.

  • They are killing all animals (lizards, snakes, frogs, birds, squirrels, rabbits etc) in that area, all trees. Seems like this video is denying the truth about mining.

We need to have greener choices.

  • That pretty farm was on a reclaimed strip mine, not a Mountain Top Removal.

  • Did any one notice that beauitful orange stream?

  • BS on the native hardwoods being planted!!! I and many others have only ever seen that scrubby looking shrub they plant and it doesn't yield fruit or nuts for wildlife! The MTR companies with continue to piss on us and tell us it's raining! There are way too many people that don't seem to mind the stench of urine!

  • I'm glad this video so prominently mentions the name Massey. Yes, the same Massey in the news because of the recent coal mining tragedy. The miners that came forward said Massey flagrantly violates the mining safety laws as soon as the Federal inspectors leave. Why is that, Massey? How can we believe anything the coal industry says when they have blood on their hands? If they don't care about coal miners' lives, then who can believe they care about the aftermath of mountaintop mining?
