Tom Brier, Patrick Aranda and Frederick Hodges play Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag" six-handed at the 2009 Sutter Creek Ragtime Festival. Very impressive performance by three master pianists.

  • @Carloscemc91 You may be correct. Certainly I play it more slowly myself, but that's because I cannot play it faster.

On the other hand, I enjoy hearing it played at all sorts of speeds. It becomes a different piece when played as these guys did, where you can hear some of Hodges' percussive ornamentation being addressed to entire phrases.

Joplin said that it is not right to play ragtime fast. I would disagree, and say it is not right to overlook ragtime played slowly.

  • great stuff !! 5/5

  • If you must do a three piano version of Maple Leaf, then this is the way to do it.
