thanks to medical science i am alive today

i only recently saw the video thunderf00t made about science saving his life and i thought it would be fitting that i shared my story as a response. i would also like to thank thunderf00t and others like him (AndromedasWake, AronRa, cdk007
djarm67, DonExodus2, dprjones, ExtantDodo, potholer54, ThetaOmega) just to name a few for defending science and reason against ignorance and stupidity.

  • you my friend are unbelievably biased. "Science and reason against ignorance and stupidity". I wonder why you are so against religion? honestly why the trolling? I can have a civil debate about this if you would like or willing to. I just don't understand why atheist are so set on proofing there is no God? How do you believe the universe came to be? What is your meaning of life? Why are you here? What will happen when you die? I'm not trolling just curious. and why separate science from religion

  • @afterthefact15 The reason I am against religion is that it promotes ignorance by denying the reality of what science achieves and crediting some unseen entity. I just give credit where it is due, with the advancement of science and the knowledge that is gained in the process. I am not out to "prove" there is no god, I just don't see any reason to believe one exists. Why should I care what happens to me when I die? I will be dead, the idea of an afterlife is silly and childish.

  • @afterthefact15 As for meaning of life, we make our own meaning by living our lives with purpose that we choose. I am here because my parents decided to have sex and I was the result. And as for how the universe came into being I would suggest reading A Brief History of Time and Grand Design by Stephen Hawking.

  • @afterthefact15 You phrase "fine line between prediction and science" is sloppily worded. Prediction is part of scientific method. I take you to mean that hypotheses are not the same as theories. Big Bang theory grew out of general relativity theory. In the same way that tests about predictions of general relativity validated it, so have tests of predictions regarding the Big Bang validated it. We have learnt much about what counts as evidence, and personal experience/belief fails miserably.

  • @dbes02 Well isn't science defined as knowledge or a system of knowledge covering general truths or the operation of general laws especially as obtained and tested through the scientific method and concerned with the physical world and its phenomena. I mean there is a fine line between prediction and science and it is in fact impossible to replicate what would be the "Big Bang Theory". So evidence is a word that I feel can be thrown around quite a bit depending upon which side you are on.

  • @afterthefact15 Each to his own? Well, certainly freedom of belief is to be defended. But if we're talking about the truth, basing it on personal belief is useless as evidence. A perfect example: you may find the concept of the Big Bang silly, but if that's what the evidence strongly supports...

  • @jdf088 hmmm, well each to his own i suppose. I guess I would consider a giant universal bang silly but who's ever gunna convert who (not that i have any intentions)

  • I'm glad you are ok. I hope you can quit smoking and get healthy. Heres to many more years of health! And here's to science.

  • I'm sorry for your personal experience. But here in Italy things are going a bit too far in the other direction: everybody's sewing doctors (even for fake reasons) and the media keeps on showing "horror hospitals". I guess the reason is political, we have a right-wing goverment that would like to privatise healthcare (I personnaly don't care if it happens) but now doctors never take risks and if they could actually save a life they rather not take the risk in fear of trials.

  • it's really sad when incompetent technicians result in the loss of someone's life. all they had to do was take a urine sample to know if he had a heart attack, all i know is there is some kind of chemical marker that shows evidence of a heart attack. that is how they knew i had one, of course they also had the good sense to give me nitro as a precaution, and that most likely saved my life.
