No, it is the truth. America IS an empire. HAS been an empire. Nothing to do with our supposed political system, which, BTW is now a full blown Roman plutocracy.

@vitaminanime i think our interests in trying to civilize and turn IRAQ into a democracy is a great example of American empire. If a country has the ability to maintain an occupation on another country then we are an empire.

@bluehazer I don't know what you're smoking, but you should probably lay off of it for a while. In no way could the US be considered an empire - colonial empires conquered vast areas of land with the intention of turning them into mini-states that could be ravaged of resources and/or "civilized." The US has never taken nearly as much land as other colonial powers, and the nations that it conquered were rebuilt and given complete autonomy. This is NOT Rome.

And how would you suggest that said morals, ethics and ideals be brought about, but with power? You can spend your existance wishing for things, or cursing those with the temerity to act, or you yourself can act.

To try to frame US hegemony in terms of "good" and "evil" as though this is a Disney production is childish. Reality is many shades of grey.

The liberals hate the imperialistic actions that are hidden from the citizens of it's own country, they hate the rather fake, hypocritical and cynical government that so call governs that area. And they hate ignorant people that don't take even the slightest finger off of the phrase "the liberals hate america" most don't hate america, they hate what america does and what it has become.

When America was asked to free Kuwait, was that occupation? When American was asked to protect Muslims in Kosovo. Was that occupation? What about WW 1 and WW2?
