Vitamin C - The Most Essential Nutrient

Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) is a vitamin only because it is a nutrient essential for life that is not manufactured in the body and must be obtained from outside sources. Every living thing on this planet except primates (Including man) and guinea pigs produce their own Vitamin C internally, do not require it in their diet, and do not suffer from a host of diseases and maladies caused by Vitamin C deficiencies.

Vitamin C is manufactured internally from glucose by a four-step process, each requiring a specific enzyme. Humans have the first three enzymes but the fourth is damaged and non functional apparently from a genetic mutation that occurred in our distant ancestors. It seems that we really have a species wide genetic disease. Perhaps fixing this genetic defect should be a primary goal for the genetic engineers of this century. There is a fifth step in vitamin C cycle, the conversion of ascorbic acid into mineral ascorbates in the liver.

The price of vitamin C deficiency is staggering. Mammals with the enzyme can live 8-10 times their maturity age. Mammals without it have a hard time living to 3-4 times their maturity age. Therefore, if humans had the gene to make their own vitamin C, the human life span could be more like 300 years. Humans have cardiovascular disease and arthritis while other mammals do not. Humans are also more susceptible to viruses and infections than animals with their own vitamin C.

What Vitamin C Does for Us

What does vitamin C do for us? There are more than ten thousand published scientific papers that make it quite clear that there is not one body process and not one disease or syndrome that is not influenced by vitamin C.

Vitamin C is particularly known for these functions:

* Antioxidant Activity - Free radicals cause oxidative damage to cells and organs, accelerates aging, contributes to arteriosclerosis and cancer. Vitamin C is a powerful and important antioxidant.

* Collagen Synthesis - Collagen is the foundation of all connective tissue, literally everything that holds the body together. Scurvy is the result of deterioration of the blood vessels resulting in hemorrhage, bleeding gums, bruising, loose teeth, tendency of bones to fracture, etc. Maladies affecting tendons, ligaments, skin, bone, teeth, cartilage, heart valves, intervertebral discs, cornea, and eye lens also result from vitamin C deficiency. There is a long continuum between scurvy and optimum tissue integrity. Most of us suffer from sub-clinical scurvy.

* Immune System - Vitamin C is a requirement for the proper functioning of our immune systems. It is involved in white blood cell production, T-cells, and macrophages. Without Vitamin C in adequate quantities, our own body's best defense against disease is left without fuel.

* Cardiovascular System - Cats and rats do not develop arteriosclerosis. The antioxidant properties of vitamin C help prevent the formation of arterial plaque. The support of connective tissues enables arteries to be strong and elastic, reducing the risk of aneurisms, stroke, and other problems.

  • Dr Linus Pauling also did research on tobacco addiction in England. When subjects craved cigarettes, they stuck a straw through an orange and sucked on it. 79% showed decrease in smoking in 3 weeks, 20% quit altogether. Physiological: Orange has vitamin c and natural sugars. Vitamin c detoxed the body and natural sugars replaced the cravings.

Psychological: the straw is shaped similar to a cigarette.

  • Everyone needs to read THE definitive book on Vitamin C titled: "Ascorbate - The Science of Vitamin C" by Dr. Steve Hickey and Dr. Hilary Roberts (c. 2004, published by Lulu).

  • Dr. Linus Pauling and Dr. Abram Hoffer also wrote a book on Vitamin C: "Vitamin C & Cancer: Discovery, Recovery, Controversy."

  • The Truth is finally outing.

We are slave cast, and indeed, we out live our use, and so, they poison us , keep us ignorant , and brain wash us. they make you so in awe of celebrity, that you lose reality.

We need to eat natural , and be real, and start planning a better future. bless you all.

  • I almost died from Scurvy 3 months ago . I had surgery on my sinus's and a week later almost blead to death . I had 4 surgeries to save my life an artery ligated and several blood transfusions. I drank a half gallon of OJ a week, a bannana a day and a salad a day but developed it still. The cause was Chron's disease and little beneficial flora . I take probiotics and digestive enzymes daily now as well as 1,500mg of vit C. My skin has improved as well

  • @theomni222 Not compared to HCL, stomach acid.. vitamin c is rather a weak acid.. however buffering it with baking soda is the best option.

  • @schigara .I would have to advise to take sodium ascorbate or calcium ascorbat, if one is going to consume it in large amounts, as normal ascorbic acid is very acidic (pH 2.2).

  • @inukami23 Read, "They're Making You Fat and Sick" available on Amazon.

  • I really want to watch the rest of that lecture. Why is the Linus pauling on VitC video material on the internet so sparse?

Someone went to the trouble of chopping out this fragment of the lecture. WHY?!?!? Upload the whole thing to google vids next time! It ain't rocket science, doh!

  • @rod1148 i attended a similar lecture in 1980. it was a pleasure. father of biochemistry.

  • I bought a 500 tablets bottle at Costco and I have been eating them like candy lately!

I also had a sore throat so I've been eating two of them EVERY waking hour, on the third day, it disappeared! I don't know if it's due 100% to the vit C because I also gargled (only once) with hot water and cayenne pepper. But hey, it was effectively gone after 72 hours.

I didn't have diarrhea from taking so much vit C either, although lots of farting!

    GO GO VITAMIN C!

  • @Theroguesunit6 It might not prevent it on its own but vitamin D especially in its purest form (sunlight) along with nutritional foods and an active lifestyle will do great wonders in preventing any diseases especially the diseases of civilization that plague western society.

  • @inukami23

There are no adverse effects from taking excessive vitamin C other than loose bowel movement. 500-1000mg a day is not very much and what you get from the pineapple is very little. All people should take at least 3000-6000mg per day in divided doses for good health and much more if you have heart disease, etc.

I have been taking 16,000mg/16grams a day for a year to reverse my atherosclerosis and the only side effect I have experienced is normal blood pressure, and cholesterol.

  • Dr. Pauling was a genius... and a hoot!

  • a few weeks ago i started vitamin c therapy, taking 1-2 grams every 4 hours (six times a day), usually 20 minutes before meals. my partner recently caught a nasty flu. i was with him almost all the time and i did not even catch a sore throat or running nose. nothing. a friend of mine had a similar experience. so i am quite convinced... p.s. i haven't taken flu vaccine in many many years.

however: carefull with teeth, rinse your mouth after each dose.
