I recorded this beloved ballad, which is the Kansas State song, of six verses using the original lyrics and chorus that Brewster Higley wrote in his 1873 poem 'My Western Home.' Very few people today have ever heard the original lyrics and chorus as it was written. These lyrics are not ones that you'll hear sitting around a campfire today. Many of the pictures in this video were taken around the time that this song was written. You will see proud people standing in front of their sod houses. 'Home On the Range' is the Kansas state song. As with all of my videos, I played all of the instruments and sang all vocals. I've featured this song before on my channel, however the music is much clearer and less compressed than my prior presentation. There is also more photos added. • I have listened to the sample on Amazon but it doesn't sound quite the same. Where could I get this exact recording.

  • @pearlaking Many times the samples aren't in stereo and are very compressed due to the many files that they must store. therefore, the samples aren't as clear as the actual recording. I hope that my explanation helps. Thanks, Tom

  • Some musicians go through their whole lives studying music and playing music, trying to figure out the buisness end or trying to find their true voice, but maybe never really do. You've done it. This is really great. You, Tom Roush, and your band are artists. Thank you for this. I've always loved this song, and now that I've heard it the way the composer intended, it's the most beautiful song I've heard.

  • @kentecklund Thanks - That's quite a compliment. You're absolutely right about the music business. Today, it's 99% marketing and 1% playing. I'm just the opposite which is the reason that few people have ever heard of me but I do enjoy playing. As for a band, I've not been able to find anyone who wished to travel the road in music that I've taken. On all of my recordings to this date, I've played all of the instruments and sang all vocals. I'm proud that I've never 'sold out' .Thanks again -Tom
