  • @quincee33 Ellard had a great career as well, he had some great years even late. Slaughter not so sure, but he was a very good reciever for Houston a few years (Browns as well). Good looking bringing them up though I have not heard them mentioned in a while.

  • @onblock7 what about guys like Henry ellard or Webster Sloughter?

  • I miss the Big 8

  • those are the longest comments ive ever seen!!

  • Yes, I think he should be in the H.O.F. too...

Also, there was one more important thing that Irving did in his playing days that you do not see today's premadonna's do. And this is something he may have done better then any other WR do. No it's not just running the slant across the middle of the field. It's that he was not afraid of contact and he played hard and he was very physical.

    A Great Blocker...

  • Like I said I remember the Philly yrs. pretty well because I was impressed with the numbers he put up late in his career with some pretty average QB's. Then the Skins made him an offer to come out of retirement for a couple yrs. So anyways I think he has some pretty amazing numbers for playing alot of yrs. with average and well below average QB's.

I think he was in the top 10 all-time in Receptions & Rec.Yds. when he retired.

  • So he was able to get a few yrs. in with Dan -the man- Marino...(I haven't looked it up but I am pretty sure those few years as Marino's primary target helped with some serious stats for him.

Then I remember when he came back close to home when he signed with the Eagles. I do remember those few yrs. because he was coming back home and seemed to have his life off the field in order, and he put up some awesome numbers with Qb's like the Dytmer's(both Ty & Coy), B. Hoying, & R. Peete.

  • Think about this for a moment...Just imagine what type of career numbers he would have had if he had a decet QB for the majority of his career???

If I re-call correctly, Irv's 1st 8 or 9 yrs in the NFL was in NE with an aging Steve Grogan and a not so good Tony Eason at QB. (also, he had Stanley Morgan there as their Primary Target probably his 1st 3 or 4 yrs. with the Pats.)!!

Then Irv finally got to play a few yrs. with a great QB in Miami ((Need I mention his name?))---Cont.---

  • If Fryar had not had issues with severe drug abuse during his pro career, his numbers would have been even greater. He made a tremendous comeback in his career and more importantly life as a man of God!

  • RE: Thanx for givin Clark credit. He played 11 yrs like Irvin and their stats are relatively equal. Swann and Warfield won super bowls so that helped them out as well. Ellar and Fryar lack a championship ring and ellard never made it to a super bowl so that will hurt them.
