Despite they are even more agile than modern fighter planes still triplane and biplane design has very very serious problem.
It limits maximum speed a lot.
In WW2 fighters won against biplanes easily by using much better speeds of monoplane.

Dr. 1 was a rip of a captured Sopwith Tripe, from what I read, but the rip came out looking much more beautiful from what it was copied from. BTW, in a dogfight you don't give a rat's ass about a stable aircraft that always needs controling, because you never want to fly straight and level. Fly straight and level for any period of time, and you are dead. A motorcycle you have to control it constantly as well, but this also gives instant flickablity, and keeps you integrated with machine

Even though it was a great plane, not many pilots could fly it that well. That thing was terribly hard to fly.
