Beofre Angryaznman rants , see this:
Around the 3rd century BC, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali taught how to meditate single-mindedly on points located inside one's body, which was later used in martial arts.
The Chinese school of martial arts agrees with the South Indian school on the principle of 108 pressure points.
Siddhartha Gautama himself was a champion of swordplay, wrestling and archery before becoming the Buddha.
^his anti-Indian rants are dismissed by the fact Buddha was Indian MA

Finally, Kalaripayattu resembles Ninjitsu and may have been a modification of traditional Indian M.A modified over the years. The traditional Martial Arts of Tamil Nadu/Sri Lanka: Kuttu Varisai (empty hand combat-like Karate/Kung Fu), Varma Kalai (pressure point study /introduction of acupuncture into Asia), and weapons arts.
Kalari Payattu may not have been the oldest martial art in India and Bodhidharma may not have introcued Kung Fu BUT India has many M.A and have contributed toward them

Between the 2nd to 12th century AD the Pallavas and the Cholas have done intensive sea trade with Southeast Asian kingdoms like that of Angkor (Cambodia), Sri Vijaya (Indonesia) and even as far as China. It is possible that the Pallavas may have had contact with Japan during their seafaring naval expeditions.
^Obv.some martial arts knowledge was traded too
Varma Kalai is the most lethal martial art from India. It is like the lethal tai chi form in China. Very few people have mastered it and those who do keep it secret. Reasons being that the power was misused in the past

Kalari is not the ancient Indian martial art of legend either-atm there is still Vajramushti (Gujurati wrestling),Maliyutham (Tamil wrestling) and Gatka (swordfighting).
Before the 1600s (arrival of the British), India was fragmented into kingdoms. Tamil Akkam was Kerla,Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. It was arguably the 'toughest' kingdom since Asoka couldn't even conquer it.
