Imran Khan from hi hide out

In a statement released through his ex-wife, Pakistani political party Tehreeq-e-Insaaf's leader Imran Khan has issued a statement saying he is in hiding for fear of reprisals from the Musharraf government.

Imran Khan released the statement through his ex-wife Jemima Khan, and said in the video that he has fled house arrest and has gone into hiding.

In the statement, Khan said he was first placed under house arrest at his home in Lahore. He also said police ransacked his house and roughed up his family. He managed to escape before they returned to take him to jail.

Warning Musharraf of a backlash, Imran Khan said Musharraf's move will only ignite more extremism and asked him not to suppress democratic forces in Pakistan.

"General Musharraf has attacked the Supreme Court for a second time because he was aware that the Supreme Court would not rule in his favour. Musharraf would never have accepted that decision because he does not want to step down from his position of power. He is strongly mistaken if he feels that he will improve the future of Pakistan by joining hands with some corrupt politicians. I believe that if we fail to resist his actions then he is set to destroy the country. I appeal to the youth, students, civil society and all political parties to rally against and oppose his situation," Imran Khan said in the video.
