Actually it is a chance for all polish catholics to party after the solumn 40 days of lent.. It is pretty nuts here in Buffalo. The entire city parties pretty hard from the moment the sun comes up on Monday morning till they have to legally close at 4am. Lotta out of towners make it even more fun. Recommend all Polish Americans come up to celebrate Dyngus...you will not be dissapointed!!!!

I wish we celebrated Dyngus Day in Cleveland. I grew up in a polish neighborhood in Cleveland, went to a Polish school and never heard of Dyngus day. This has to be a regional custom from the Polinia Region of Poland. Does anyone know if the rest of Poland celebrates this day nationaly?

Surely, just get a handful of proud Poles together the monday after Easter, play some polkas, and celebrate...In Poland, traditionally, early in the morning boys awake girls by pouring a bucket of water on their head and striking them about the legs with long thin twigs of willows...In America its a day to celebrate traditions and come together as the Polonia community, especially in Buffalo, all hell breaks loose there.
