Joking aside... Libya also comes to mind as a progressive, secular African country and a rich oil nation. Tunisia is another modern and liberal state, and Sudan is a rich agricultural country. Algeria also comes to mind. There are countless countries that are fairly progressive and have a rich culture and history. The library of Alexandria was the largest library in the ancient world,and Islamic African scientists and doctors were more progressive than Christian scholars during the Middle Ages.

Egypt is in Africa? Can't be. Africa is a country according to Sarah Palin, and she sure knows her geography as well as her history! In fact, she knows these things better than any schoolbook, because she reads *all* publications and can see Russia from her backyard.
