A complete ascent of the Yosemite's Half Dome cables. Unbroken footage from the bottom to the top. See what it's really like. In this rare continuous video, Mr Half Dome strapped a GoPro HERO wide angle camera on his head and takes you the entire 425 foot vertical ascent. You'll be traveling 600+ feet at a 45 degree angle. Scary? Yes - so hang on tight. Overcome your fears and hike Half Dome! You will LOVE it. The top is 8,842 feet above sea level. 4,737 feet above the valley. The views are superb. Just do it.

If you are planning this hike, this is a MUST SEE. No stills can covey the excitement. Narration is included to inform you about the cables. Other videos can't do it in the 15 mins allowed by YouTube. Mr Half Dome does it in 12. It was filmed in June 2009 before permits. It's not as crowded now. Yes, he is going up the outside. We do not recommend it - he didn't do it until his 11th time. He's at 35 now. In the Wilderness, you assess the risk of what you are about to do, and deal with it.

Carpe Diem - Seize the day!

I wonder how strong are the cables? That's a lot of meat being supported, there.

Great video! I made my first visit to Yosemite last week, but the cables weren't up yet. I think I know what I'm doing next time I'm there!

That looks terrible. This is the bane of national parks. Amazing view but who wants to stand in a line behind a bunch of gapers holding a rail? This is nature? Those of you who are saying you "climbed" Half Dome are a laugh. The only way to climb half dome is to do it on the sheer face of the other side (which has been one without a rope). This is Gaper city here

I climbed half dome when I was 12. Amazing experience. I plan on doing it again this summer

I made it to the top on July 4, 1976. I got up before dawn and hiked through Curry Village to Happy Isles and set off. Since I was alone, I could set my own pace. I do not remember a crowd per se, but I guess it was because I was there early, because I was 24 years old and in shape and went quickly. I wore combat boots if you can imagine that. A couple on top asked me to take their photo, which I did. I had no camera, but I have my memories.

Personally I don't think there should be cables there. Cables give the average person a false sense of safety. If you take the cables out people will soon realize how hard it is and less people will do reducing the amount of traffic and the deaths.

there is a permit system for this - BOOO. the NPS should just install a third cable, separate up /down sides. and don't forget 2 things - sturdy gloves, and about 15 ft of 5 /16 strong nylon rope ( not closesline) and a carabiner with 1 1/2" capacity, just in case it starts raining or nerves get shaky. BOOO permits. is the hike to Verneil / mist trail permitted ?
