Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 uncensored scene!

When ADV Films re-issued "Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040" as part of its Essential Anime Collection, it decided to censor a bit of dialogue in its own English dub. The line in question was exclaimed by Sylia in a scene in episode 18, "We Built This City". For those of you that haven't heard this infamous line, here is the scene from the ORIGINAL DVD release.

Please note that the audio might lag slightly behind the video, due to 29 frames being dropped by my crappy capture software.

They did indeed censor this line - in the recent re-release. Now, it's "Oh, you gotta be kidding me!"

so glad the dvd collection i got has this uncensored xD I had to double back and listen to this part again when I first watched it. Caught me off guard, more animes need to be uncensored. The F-bomb is over rated.

Well gildy77, you must have not seen Gantz. It puts all the profanity of those other animes to shame.

I have the "brick" version of the complete series (released in 2002). I must admit, the line caught me off guard the first time I saw this scene, since most Matt Greenfield directed titles didn't have that much heavy profanity. So far as I know, the only ADV titles that used the f-word are Gunsmith Cats, Excel Saga, and BGC 2040.

I agree.

That's one thing that has continuously irked me about studios doing dubs. Is they take the liberty of cutting stuff out. Then charge you more for the uncensored eps, or movies.

Because no one in there right might would pay for the eps,movies that had content removed at a higher rate. (This is where the actual work was put in to remove stuff, so its where it should cost more)
