A 25 year old Elise asks how can she determine if she has a yeast infection.
According to Dr. Jonathan Schaffir, to know if you have a yeast infection there are signs and symptoms that you will be manifesting that can go on for days, and the most common ones are vaginal discharge, itchiness, foul odor from the site of infection, a burning sensation while urinating and at times, there could be no symptoms at all. But how would we really know if what we have is a yeast infection? Yeast infection can be diagnosed by several diagnostic tests. However the most common diagnostic test especially for females is the pap smear. Pap smear is done by obtaining a discharge from the vagina using a brush-like tool and smear it over a glass specimen for microscopic evaluation.
Treatment of yeast infection is normally with over-the-counter medicines. To make sure that what you are treating is a yeast infection and not something else, it is strongly suggested that you see a physician regarding this matter.
