Without jazz and blues rock wouldn't exist thats where rock music stemmed from. Thank black people for giving white people virtually every type of music around today

Yep. I notice that effect too. We want to be challenged and to hear new things. But when there's no familiar handle to grasp on to, it's just annoying.

That's the thing, your ear has to get used to jazz harmonies. It doesn't have to get used to pentatonic scales or triads. We find it naturally pleasing.

"The first time anyone hears a major chord, they think it's nice. As for a thirteenth chord..."

I have to say, the songs/albums I like the most are often the ones I didn't quite like the first time. When you grow into liking something can be very rewarding, being as well a learning and re-discovering process. When talking about what things are or aren't in harmony, I don't think it's up to anybody to decide as it depends on what your ear is used to.

    I mostly agree with you.

The first time anyone hears a major chord, they think it's nice. As for a thirteenth chord...

Jazz theory claims that a lot of things are in harmony when they are not, that is my problem with it. I like music to have a balance of consonance and dissonance. Pure jazz compositions fail to strike the balance I like.

I'm sure other people have different subjective perceptions of music and I acknowledge that.

Jazz isn't simply complicating music and immature obfuscation, though.

If music is communication, and Pink Floyd said what they did in a certain language (with its rules and grammar), it could be translated to Jazz, which has a different language. Not 'more complicated' or even complex, merely freer in certain respects.

If Music is playing between comfortable certainty(boring, safe) and complete randomness(unintelligible), jazz chooses to be wilder, just cos there's so much to do and say here.
