We do run double stack train here in Australia across the desert. and most loco's are set up to run from either direction. some even have 2 control stands for both short and long end leading.

I saw what looked like a few F units in the video. If they were, are F units common for freight service there?

Yes. Those type of units are very common on freight. The last units with that type of "F unit" cab were built in the 1970's.
Imagine F Unit cabs on a SDFP40-2?

Great video--Do they ever run double-stack container trains in Australia like they do here in the States? Also, I saw some diesels running long-hood forward. Are they set up to run that way or were they being run backwards?

The majority of these videos are filmed in Sydney and Brisbane. Double Stacking is not permitted in Eastern Australia. However, between Adelaide and Perth (to the West) and Adelaide to Darwin, double stacks are common.
Locomotives here either have dual cabs or dual control stands so they can run 'backwards'.
