Artshow 2010 part 2.wmv

Part two of tour of the Maale Shaharut Senior Art Exhibit, March 2010. This part of the tour includes the works in the art gallery at the back of the Eilot Regional Performing Arts Center. Works include portfolios and exhibits for the bagrut exam in art, fashion and photography. Adam Cicelsky's Community Tree project: Adam asked members of the regional community to join him in hand crafting (sew, knit or crochet) a piece of the tree. The work was inspired by Dr. Seuss (the unique shape of the tree - a symbol his growing up), Urban Guerrilla Knitters (who put sweaters of trees to make urban spaces more friendly and show appreciation to nature, Ghada Amer (flipping the use of traditional "women's" crafts to make a political/social statement and his personal affinity to crafts. The tree, a symbol of life, combined with community engagement, symbolized by all the pieces made by unique members of his community (home, kibbutz, school, community center, old age center) show his appreciation for the community he grew up in, the support he received from it and his assessment that a strong community is one which accepts and works with its diverse, unique components. He asks "Is the tree at the onset of Winter and strife, needing the sweater to protect it? Is the tree on the onset of Spring, full of potential with the strength to be renewed, nurtured by the power of the individual bonds that make a community around it?"
