DAVID SHUSTER, MSNBC: Ron, how do you see this cutting politically right now and a couple of months from now?

RON BROWNSTEIN, ATLANTIC MEDIA: Well I think there are two big points about it. First, this is - whatever you think about the underlying bill - an historic achievement. Up until this year no universal coverage bill had ever even reached the floor of the House or the Senate, much less passed it. It has defeated every other President who has tried it. Truman, Nixon, Clinton, FDR. This will be, as it now seems inevitable to reach the President's desk, this will be the largest Democratic legislative achievement since Medicare in 1965 and it will be achieved in an atmosphere that is very difficult to operate in simply because you now need 60 votes to do almost everything. There have been more cloture votes in the Senate this year than there were in the entire decade of the 1960s.

  • I have been a lifelong Democrat, but the Senate bill is worse than nothing. The Senate bill is nothing but a government subsidy for the insurance industry.

Pass the House bill, or nothing at all.

  • A mandate to buy a for-profit product from a politically-connected industry, or else face legal consequences, equals slavery.

Truly this is a "historic moment"--the moment the Dem Party signed its death warrant.

  • that law will go into effect as soon as the President signs the bill into law.

  • Alright then, when can I buy some health insurance without them turning me down for pre-existing headaches?

Yeah, I get headaches, and consequently get denied for private insurance continually.

When will the law change requiring them to insure me?

  • A Victory for President Obama, as well as the Democratic Party. Let's seal the deal!
